Hindi for Indian children in Canada
Hindi is the most widely spoken Indian language in Canada, with large communities in Brampton, Mississauga, Surrey and Calgary. Many families use Hindi as the shared language even when Punjabi or Gujarati is spoken at home. Children hear plenty of Hindi but rarely learn to read it; a dedicated teacher fills that gap and builds the confidence to speak with relatives in India.
From Brampton to Surrey, one time table
Canada spans four and a half time zones, so our class times are planned per city. Weekend mornings in Toronto and Brampton match the Indian evening; in Vancouver and Surrey they match the Indian night, so early-morning weekday slots are the other option there.
| Your time zone in Canada | Weekday 7:00 am your time | Saturday 8:00 am your time | Saturday 10:00 am your time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eastern (Toronto, Brampton, Montreal) | … | … | … |
| Central (Winnipeg) | … | … | … |
| Mountain (Calgary, Edmonton) | … | … | … |
| Pacific (Vancouver, Surrey) | … | … | … |
Times are worked out for the coming week in your browser, so daylight saving is always correct. "Works" means it falls within our hours (Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 9 pm India time). For other times, just ask us on WhatsApp.
How Hindi classes work from Canada
- Step 1
Message us from Canada
WhatsApp is free from Canada. We reply within 1 hour during our working hours, which are late evening to late morning Canadian time (for example 11:30 pm to 11:30 am in Toronto in summer), Monday to Saturday India time.
- Step 2
A free demo at a Canada time
8 am on Saturday in Toronto is 5:30 pm in India in summer; 8 am in Vancouver is 8:30 pm. Weekday after-school times in Canada fall during the Indian night. We suggest two or three slots and you pick one for a free 30-minute Hindi demo.
- Step 3
A teacher matched to your child
We match for level, language and your time zone, and the same teacher stays with your child every week. If it isn't a fit, we change the teacher for free.
- Step 4
Weekends in Canada
The weekend in Canada is Saturday and Sunday. Our teachers work Monday to Saturday India time, so we plan around both calendars.
Classes are live on Zoom or Google Meet, never recorded, with 20+ subject specialists in India. Hindi is led by Dr. Ritu Tewari.
Hindi classes in Canada: common questions
My child understands Hindi but only replies in English. Can you help?
Yes. The teacher keeps the class in Hindi as far as your child can follow and uses role-play and stories so replying in Hindi becomes natural.
Do you teach children from Punjabi-speaking homes?
Yes. Classes are taught in English alongside Hindi, so children can begin with no Hindi at home. Punjabi speakers usually find Hindi vocabulary familiar.
Does learning Hindi help my child with Punjabi or Gujarati later?
Yes. Hindi shares its script with Marathi and much of its vocabulary with Punjabi and Gujarati, so a child who reads Hindi finds the other family languages far more familiar.
What times can my child take Hindi classes from Canada?
India is 9.5 to 10.5 hours ahead of Toronto and 12.5 to 13.5 hours ahead of Vancouver, depending on daylight saving. 8 am on Saturday in Toronto is 5:30 pm in India in summer; 8 am in Vancouver is 8:30 pm. Weekday after-school times in Canada fall during the Indian night. The time table on this page works it out for your time zone.
How much do Hindi classes cost?
Fees depend on the subject, your child's level and whether you choose one-on-one or a small batch, so we share the exact fee on WhatsApp once we know what your child needs. Every family can take a free 30-minute demo class first, with no obligation to join.
